Safeguarding: PTO Pathway; In-Person, Bury St Edmunds, Thurs 30 July 2026, 10.00am (Safeguarding PTO2)

Course

This course replaces the Leadership Safeguarding module for those people with PTO who also meet the specific criteria outlined below:

It is recognised that those with PTO need to participate in safeguarding learning. It is also recognised that the exercise of PTO and the level of ministry can vary considerably between different people. As the main Safeguarding Leadership Pathway is targeted at those people “who play a lead role in shaping the culture of the Church body concerned”, if you have PTO and your role meets this criterion, you must participate in the main Safeguarding Leadership Pathway (click here to return to Leadership course booking page); if not, you must participate in this PTO Safeguarding Learning Pathway.

Summary of Criterion for those completing the Safeguarding PTO Pathway:

  • Does not play a lead role in shaping the culture of where they are.
  • Is not a regular leader within a Parish or Church/Parish Community .
  • Has ‘limited’ Ministry
  • Will not take on more/regular leadership tasks

Required for:

Attendance at this course rather than the Leadership Module must be agreed with the Diocesan Safeguarding Team. Consultation with Archdeacons, Supervising Clergy and other relevant decision makers will be made before an individual with PTO is authorised to complete this course rather than the Leadership Module. Individuals can apply to attend this course, but most will be personally invited.

Completion of the Basic Awareness and Foundations courses is a pre-requisite to this training.

If you are doing this training for the first time, and you have not previously completed the Leadership module , you will need to complete Basic Awareness and Foundation training prior to attending this course. When you are renewing safeguarding training, you are required to refresh the highest level for your role. Therefore if you have previously completed Basic Awareness, Foundation and either PTO Pathway or Leadership training and this is your three-year renewal, you are only required to complete this PTO Pathway (assuming you meet the criteria above). We would recommend that you also refresh Basic Awareness and Foundation training every six years.

If you are unsure if this level of training is right for you, please check with the Diocesan Safeguarding Team: safeguarding.training@cofesuffolk.org
