Please be aware that everyone should have safeguarding information on the front page of their Parish/Benefice/A church Near You websites.
This is a mandatory requirement, and websites are being checked nationally for compliance. A sample text is below for you to use, if you so wish.
Our parish of —–is committed to safeguarding children, young people, and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Safeguarding Officer. Our Diocese of St. Edmundsbury & Ipswich’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Officer who advises our Safeguarding Officer. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm, please contact the Safeguarding Officer (add local details) or the Diocesan Safeguarding Officer Karen Galloway 07785 621319 or safeguarding@cofesuffolk.org If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.
Safeguarding for your PCC meeting agendas
Safeguarding should be on your PCC meeting Agenda and a topic that is regularly and meaningfully discussed.
On the PCC meeting it could be that there is nothing that needs to be discussed. If this is the case, perhaps you could look at some safeguarding scenarios the Diocesan Safeguarding Team can provide for you or share a safeguarding centred prayer. Below are two example prayers you may like to use:
Loving God, we pray that this church may be a place of welcome, security and compassion. Keep us watchful yet caring, trusting yet ready to question, that all who worship here may do so in safety and in the knowledge of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. May the doors of this church be wide enough to receive all who come seeking God and fellowship. (Prayer from the Liturgical Commission)
May the doors of this church be narrow enough to shut out pettiness and pride, envy and enmity. May the threshold of this church be no stumbling block to young or frail feet. May the threshold of this church be too high to admit complacency and self-seeking. May this church be, for all who enter, a safe place and the doorway to a richer life in Christ.
